Craftsmen are thus characterized by the mastery of technical know-how that they apply to a non-perishable material (wood, leather, earth, glass, etc.) to make utilitarian or decorative pieces with an aesthetic aim.

Art is an activity, the product of that activity or the idea we have of it, that deliberately addresses the senses, emotions, intuitions and intellect.

It can be said that art is proper to the human or any other consciousness, as a result of an intention, and that this activity has no definite practical function.

The term "art" is seen as opposed to nature "conceived as a power producing without reflection", and science "conceived as pure knowledge independent of applications".
