The loincloth is a light garment worn in hot countries. It is made of a piece of fabric, leather, feather or vegetable material, usually braided and rectangular, fitted around the hips and reaching down to the thighs (short loincloth) or ankles (long loincloth).

Its size always allows the genitals to be hidden at a minimum. Depending on the era, culture and age of life, the loincloth is mixed or sometimes worn by women, by men, outside, or indoors, from adolescence onwards in general. It is one of the simplest garments to make and wear, still commonly used, especially in hot regions. Some fashion designers and artists are inspired by it.
